Your Baby's First Steps with Us

Congratulations on your new baby!
Welcoming a new little one is one of life's most special milestones, bringing joy, anticipation, and plenty of questions along the way. Whether you're a first-time parent or adding another child to your family, there is a lot to think about as you prepare for your baby's arrival. While you may not be fully prepared for those middle-of-the-night feedings and diaper changes, you can feel confident knowing your baby's healthcare needs are in good hands.

From feeding and sleep to growth and development, our team is here to provide trusted guidance. We are honored to be part of your parenting journey and committed to providing compassionate, personalized care and support for your family from day one.

Getting Started is Simple:

  • Step 1: Register & Schedule Your First Visit

The first few days of life are especially important as your baby adjusts to feeding, sleeping, and their new surroundings. We’re here to help you navigate those first few days.

Once you are home from the hospital, please call our office to register your newborn and schedule their first appointment, typically within 48–72 hours after discharge. During this call, we will:

    Review our vaccine policy

Our providers follow the recommended AAP vaccination schedule and expect patients to stay up to date on all immunizations. If this approach does not align with your preferences, we respectfully recommend seeking care with a practice that is a better fit for your family. Our complete vaccine policy can be found here.

    Discuss insurance coverage

You will need to add your newborn to your insurance within 30 days of birth. Requirements vary by provider, so we recommend contacting your insurance company directly to confirm what is needed.

    Guide you through registration paperwork

We encourage you to complete your New Patient Registration Packet in advance. You can email completed forms to records@thepedcenter.com or bring them to your appointment.

  • Step 2: Prepare for Your Appointment

We use Phreesia, a secure mobile check-in system, to make your visit easier. You’ll receive a link by text or email before your appointment to begin the check-in process. Please plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early so we can ensure everything is ready for your visit.

    What To Bring

    Hospital Records

If your baby was born outside Frederick Health, bring your discharge paperwork and hearing screen results.

    Insurance Information

Bring any available insurance information (often the parent’s insurance is scanned at the first visit).

    Registration Paperwork

Bring your completed New Patient Packet, if you haven’t already emailed it in.

    Diaper Bag

Pack diapers, wipes, an extra outfit, and a small blanket to keep your baby comfortable.

  • Step 3: Concluding Your Visit

Your provider will let you know when to schedule your baby’s next appointment. Before you leave, please stop by the check-out desk so our team can assist you.

After your visit, you’ll receive a short questionnaire by text or email. Your feedback helps us continue to improve and provide the best care possible. We would love to hear about your experience!
