In Their Words...
What inspired you to work with children?
I began my career as a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) nurse in 2016. While there, I loved working with families and empowering parents to care for their newborns. However, I soon realized I wanted to expand my knowledge and continue working with families beyond the newborn stage. While I am still passionate about working with newborns, I love engaging with children of all ages. Now, as a mom, I have an even greater appreciation for working with children and their families.
My secret talent or interesting fact about me:
When I was born, I suffered from a severe nerve injury to my left arm, leaving my left arm paralyzed. I had surgery at 3 months old, taking nerves out of my legs and reattaching them to where they were severed in my arm. I now have almost total movement of my left arm. As a nurse, I worked in the NICU where I had been a patient. During that time, I worked with the neonatologist who saved my life, as well as the surgeon who performed my operation. I even had the opportunity to see similar patients with him and to attend the same surgery he performed on me.
The best advice you’ve ever received:
Kindness is the single most powerful thing we can teach our children.
Favorite way to spend a day off?
Spending time with my family! We love camping, hiking, running, watching movies, trips to the bookstore, baking, and eating lots of yummy food.
